An A-Z of Embarrassing Parents

I made this book last year as a guide for adults. I took inspiration from the everyday things my parents used to do that embarrassed me when I was much younger (and still a bit today). I could do a similar thing for this project, however I want it to take inspiration from the everyday things that make me annoyed or laugh now.

(Scene from Eastenders)
I am inspired by Soaps. They try to show what they think the 'everyday' person gets up to, but heavily dramatised.
I think it would be fun to show this but use animals instead of people.
I think it would make it more light hearted and interesting.

Objectives

  1. Make people smile
  2. Create work that is the every day person can relate to
  3. Aimed at adults
  4. Improve my life drawing and observational drawing
  5. Include topics from everyday life
  6. Have no deep meaning - just nonsense

Victorian Taxidermy by Walter Potter
As bizarre as it may seem, I think this video is quite a good example of what I want to achieve in this project.
I like how he has tried to humanize the animals by dressing them up and putting them in human situations.

FESTIVE PUG

I drew this pug over xmas. I really enjoy dogs in hats, and I was feeling festive.

FANCY DRESS DOGS

I find dogs in fancy dress really funny. Currently I am not sure if I want to create illustrations that I find funny or not, but I really enjoy looking at these images.

MANIFESTO

I am currently interested in fashion illustration, and also really enjoy drawing animals, both from life and in unusual scenario's. For example, a pug enjoying a christmas lunch at a dining table.
I really love the new and old fashion illustrations. My favourite are the stylish old vogue magazine covers, I really appreciate what they bring to fashion. I have always been interested in fashion drawings, and I think it is a subject lots of people enjoy. However, I do get bored of drawing beautiful people over and over.
Recently I have really enjoyed drawing animals from life as I find it interesting drawing something so real. However, I know a few people can appreciate these drawings as art, but most people find observational animal drawings a bit boring. I want to continue drawing animals but in such a way that other people will find amusing or interesting.

I am going to experiment by combining my two current favourite things to draw. I would ideally like to create fashion illustrations but with animals rather than humans. I am not sure whether this would end up as just a few finished drawings, a book, or posters. I could also possibly create a catalogue of fashion styles for animals. I am also interested in narrative, so my current favourite idea would be to create a narrative about fashionable animals.
